The exhibition, “Straniamento”, presents the varied creative world of Noé Sendas (Brussels, 1972), one of the most interesting Belgian research photographers. The exhibition features works from various series by the author such as Crystal Girl, ONE OFF aka DRAWING ROOM, Peep.
In an era dominated by the proliferation of images, Noé Sendas does not create new ones, but chooses to manipulate pre-existing materials, giving them other meanings and questioning the notions of identity and authorship.
Turning to photography as a field for experimenting with the metamorphosis of images, the artist retrieves surrealist techniques such as collages and overlays and updates them with digital technologies, which allow some aspects to be removed and modified. On the other hand, he manipulates the printing method as if he were producing photographs of that era, raising doubts about time and authorship̀, a strategy evident above all in the Crystal Girls series (since 2009). In these works, the figures are headless and are alienating to the point of creating an atmosphere poised between restlessness and wonder.
The exhibition is in collaboration with Mc2gallery Italy – Montenegro.
