Roman Đuranović

Roman Đuranović  |  Biography

Roman Đuranović (Montenegro, 1969) graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cetinje, Montenegro. In addition to various prestigious awards (such as the Award for Best Young Artist and the Annual Award for Drawing), he has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including ‘Montenegrin Art 1946–2000’ (Sarajevo, 2002), ‘The Week of Montenegrin Culture’ (Barcelona, 2003), ‘Montenegrin Beauty’ (Berlin and Dresden, 2005), ‘Montenegrin Contemporary Fine Art’ (Ljubljana and Vienna, 2008), ‘Macht des Geldes’ (Schwalmtal, 2013), and others. Roman has held major solo exhibitions at the Centre of Contemporary Art (Podgorica, 1997), the National Museum of Montenegro (Cetinje, 2002), Art Pavillion (Podgorica, 2006), Der Turm Gallery, (Schwalmtal, 2010), the Modern Art Museum (Ankara, 2011), the Petley Jones Gallery (Vancouver, 2013), and Taglialatella Gallery (New York City, 2016).
In an effort to capture the “perceived reality”, his figurative motifs often speak of identity, authenticity and relationships, especially in relation to trendy and advertising motives. As with the tradition of pop art, Roman is drawn from design, comics and film influences, as well as from his own cultural experience, to use his subjects with relevant and fierce symbolism.
