“It’s easy to take a picture, but what really makes the difference is that I always knew how to find the right position, I was never wrong … I was able to make someone look really nice … That’s why I always say it’s true art …” – S. Keïta
mc2gallery is proud to present a selection of works by two great African artists recognized and acclaimed even outside their country, who have been able to tell the dignity and culture of the people of Mali: Seydou Keïta and Malick Sidibé. The two artists have documented a rapidly evolving Africa, an Africa that strongly wanted to claim its identity. The shots by Keïta and Sidibé free the characters from the stereotypes of racism and enhance the beauty of their individuality. Theirs are real portraits, meticulously studied in all the details of the surrounding setting. Women, men, couples and families form a gallery of fascinating and elegant characters, immortalized both in moments of everyday life and in moments of fun and spontaneity. Their faces speak to us of emancipation, of their dream of freedom and of a strong complicity with the artist.
