Casper Faassen – solo show

Presented Artist:

Casper Faassen

Painter and photographer, Casper Faassen developed his passion for drawing and painting inspired by artists of the classical tradition such as Dou and Rembrandt.

His unique style, which combines painting with photography, has received praise from critics and the public and his work has been exhibited in numerous international art fairs such as Photo Basel, Photo London, Unseen and PAN Amsterdam and is present in public collections and private ones such as Frans Hals Museum (Haarlem), Museum de Lakenhal (Leiden) and Dutch Royal Library (The Hague). Recently, the Fotografiska museum in Stockholm and Japanmuseum SieboldHuis, Leiden have also presented personal exhibitions of the artist’s works.

Casper’s work speaks of beauty but also of melancholy and the inevitable decline of earthly life. His women, archetypes of beauty, observe us behind a clouded glass that allows only a few details to be glimpsed, as if the portrayed image was slowly fading away. In this way Faassen creates a clear distance with the observer emphasized by a widespread layer of craquelure that brings us back to the pictorial tradition of the seventeenth century together with the theme of Vanitas.

The artist explores, in a modern key, the traditional beauty represented by women in continuous change, the same but always different.
