Antoine D’Agata solo show

Presented Artist:

Antoine d’Agata

mc2gallery is proud to present the personal exhibition of the French artist Antoine d’Agata, born in Marseille in 1961, a controversial figure in the world of contemporary art and photography, being his work bleak, introspective and scandalously daring.
He experiences firsthand the scenarios permeated by drugs and sex, together with the subjects around him who are often prostitutes and other social outcasts.
D’Agata becomes the permanent actor of his shots, the protagonist of a context that he creates himself: Antoine photographs what he does, does what he photographs.
Suffering, absence, the need for enjoyment and the subtlest need to make people enjoy, everything brings, through the sexual act, to his body. And the moments of the night are perfect, where only neon and artificial lights can penetrate the darkness in which Agata lives intensely. As a traveler, he travels the world from bars to brothels, going from drugs to alcohol, brittle and indulging in sex.
His are nights of uncertainty and pleasure, in a temporal space suspended between ephemeral happiness and the unease of existence.
Observing his scenarios, we are obliged to share the courage and energy of living with him, because he never puts us in the condition of a simple observer, but we have to get out of the frame of photography to experience the world with him.
