Dear friends, collectors, and art lovers, We are thrilled to give you an exclusive preview of the latest results from Bastiaan Woudt’s research. This new 2026 production marks an extremely significant phase in the Dutch artist’s journey: an evolution that bears witness to an increasingly mature synthesis between the formal purity of black and white and sophisticated technical experimentation. Woudt continues to redefine the canons of contemporary photography, pushing his vision toward an almost metaphysical and timeless dimension.
The Aesthetics of Emptiness and Formal Perfection
In the new 2026 works, Bastian Woudt further pushes the boundaries of his signature minimalism. His images are not merely portraits or landscapes, but true architectures of light and shadow. Every superfluous element is removed to make room for a composition that borders on geometric perfection. At this point in his journey, “emptiness” is not an absence but an active element that charges the subject with monumental force. Whether it is a face or a natural detail, Woudt manages to transform the ordinary into an icon where form becomes pure substance.
Black and White as a Sculptural Language
Woudt’s black and white is unique on the global stage: it is not a nostalgic choice, but a sculptural tool of extreme modernity. Through skillful post-production and an obsessive attention to contrast, the artist models bodies and objects as if they were made of solid matter, almost marble or graphite. The textures of skin, fabrics, and natural surfaces acquire an astonishing three-dimensionality. In these new works, the range of grays becomes even richer, creating tonal transitions that give the images an almost painterly depth.
Flemish Roots and Contemporary Vision
Despite the modernity of his means, Bastian Woudt’s work remains deeply linked to the tradition of Flemish painting. The management of light recalls the chiaroscuro of 17th-century masters, but it is reinterpreted through a contemporary, clean, and dynamic lens. This ability to create a dialogue between art history and modern aesthetics is what has made Woudt an artist sought after by museums and international collections. The new 2026 works confirm this capacity for synthesis, offering pieces that are simultaneously classical and avant-garde.
Upcoming Events with Bastiaan Woudt: Arte Fiera Bologna and MIA Photo Fair
On the occasion of the upcoming Arte Fiera Bologna 2026, a selection of Bastian Woudt’s works will be available at our booth. Although not officially on display, the works will be held in our fair storage for private viewing. However, the grand official and extensive presentation of his research will take place in March in Milan, during MIA Photo Fair. On that occasion, we will dedicate a significant exhibition project to the artist, focused entirely on the excellence of contemporary Dutch photography alongside Paul Cupido.
His solo show in Milan is still ongoing, until January 31st, at LDR22, via Manin 13 (by appointment)
