Michael Ackerman was born in 1967 in Tel Aviv. In 1974 he emigrated in New York. Between 1993 and 1997 he traveled often in India and the photos that he took there are the object of his firt book End Time City (Delpire, 1999), which obtneined the Nadar Award in 1999. From 1997 he became part of Agence VU’ and Galerie VU’ in Paris, which actually represents him. Since his first show in 1999 it has been clear that his approach to photography is innovative, radical and unique. Michael Ackerman seeks – and he finds- in the world he traverses, reflections of his personal uneasiness, doubts and anguish.
In 1998 he received the prestigious Infinity Award for Young Photographer of the International Center of Photography in New York. After this event he has exposed in a lot of cities both in Europe and in the USA. His photos are part of some important collections in the world. His last book Half Life was published in 2010 by Robert Delpire and it was his third work. In the last years Ackerman has taught workshops and masterclasses at ICP of New York, at Neue Schule Fur Fotografie in Berlin and in other schools and institutions in the world.
