mc2gallery is proud to inaugurate the exhibition of photographer Michael Ackerman. In collaboration with the Galerie VU ‘in Paris, the exhibition is a selection of the most significant photographs of recent years, specially chosen by the artist and the curator, Claudio Composti. A unique opportunity to see and meet one of the most interesting artists in international photography. On the occasion of the exhibition, in the following days, there will be a booksigning from MiCamera in Milan and a Workshop in Bologna, from SpazioLabò, with the artist.
Michael Ackerman was born in Tel Aviv on 3 September 1967. In 1974 he emigrated to New York. Between 1993 and 1997 he traveled frequently to India and the photographs taken here were the subject of his first book “End Time City” (Edition Delpire, 1999), which received the Prix Nadar in 1999. From 1997 he joined the Agency and VU Gallery in Paris, which currently represents it. Since its first performance in 1999 it is clear that Michael Ackerman’s approach to photography is new, radical and unique. Michael Ackerman searches – and finds – in the world he goes through, reflections of his personal life, his doubts and his anguishes. In 1998 he was awarded the prestigious Infinity Award for Young Photographer by the International Center of Photography in New York. Since then he has exhibited in numerous cities both in Europe and in the United States. His photographs are part of important international collections. In recent years Ackerman has taught workshops and masterclasses at the ICP in New York, at the Neue Schule Fur Photographs in Berlin and at various other schools and institutions around the world. His latest book “Half Life” was published in 2010 by Robert Delpire and is available in the gallery and by MiCamera by reservation.
